Have you ever stopped to consider what makes a healthy smile? Like most people, I was always under the assumption that I was doing my part by brushing, flossing and visiting my dentist regularly. There are certain things I did, like buying non-flouridated toothpaste and natural mouthwashes... maybe using baking soda as a tooth scrub from time to time... but I had a very vague understanding of how the mouth can affect the rest of the body.
Through my work in thermography (heat images of the body to help find inflammation and infection), I have recently begun working with some local biological dentists who are trying to do their best to educate people on how dental work can cause many health issues. Through the use of thermograms, dentists are able to pinpoint areas of infection. Through this relationship, there have been studies which indicate a link between breast cancer and dental pathology. Other findings indicate a link between automimmune disease (Crohn's, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and others) and periodontal disease (which, is a chronic infection of the mouth). The American Journal of Cardiology and Journal of Periodontology both simultaneously released a study which indicated a link between periodontitis and heart disease. Researchers have found that people with periodontal disease are almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery disease as those without periodontal disease.
If you suspect some sort of dental infection, it is important to find a dentist who can help you. The IAOMT is a source for finding a biological dentist in your area. Otherwise, I am able to perform a cranial thermogram, which would indicate infection in the gum and jaw area, and point you in the direction of a trusted dentist.
Other dental points of interest:
- Traditional dental authorities allege that mercury is locked into the filling, because the atomic structure of mercury is “bound” to the silver, and therefore the mercury is biologically inactive. However, recent studies conducted at the University of Alberta show that mercury vapor actually escapes and is absorbed by the rest of the body. This increases when eating or drinking hot foods and liquids, during chewing (friction releases the vapor) or when placement of an amalgam filling is next to a tooth that has been restored with gold or other metals. - Boyd Haley, Ph.D., a researcher, at the University of Kentucky has estimated that 75% of root canalled teeth are infected. Another researcher, Hal Huggins, DDS, has shown that the toxins liberated by infected root canalled teeth are almost 1000 times more toxic than botulism. Botulism is the most toxic substance known.
